Membership EXpectations

The Singers Glen Volunteer Rescue Squad serves the Singers Glen and surrounding communities and provides emergency care and transportation services to those in need. Our team is 100% volunteer and responds to calls ranging from major medical emergencies to simple injuries. Those we serve rely on the squad respond in a timely manner to provide the necessary care. Being a volunteer means you are held to the highest standard of performance and care.

Once you become a member of the Singers Glen Volunteer Rescue Squad, training opportunities will be provided to serve as an ambulance driver and attendant-in-charge. You will be offered classroom training, observation and practical training, and finally an internship. Once your training is successfully completed, you will be released to provide the appropriate level of care.

Continuing education is available both in house and by other state and local options. This will allow you as a member to increase the level of care able to be provided, along with raising your skills and abilities. As a member you will be provided with the necessary skills and equipment to provide the highest level of care possible.

What is expected of you as a member

The first priority of the Singers Glen Volunteer Rescue Squad is providing the highest patient care possible. You are expected to be professional at all times as a representative of the rescue squad. We treat our fellow members, representatives of other agencies and law enforcement, and bystanders with courtesy and respect.

As a member, your volunteer position should be treated in the same way as you would a career position. Being financially compensated should not dictate the level of care provided to those in need. While serving this agency, you are expected to follow all the By-laws, Standard Administrative Guidelines (SAGs) and Standard Operational Guidelines (SOGs).

Membership requires the completion of monthly duty. As a volunteer operation, having coverage to answer the call when needed is most important. We cannot provide the level of care the community deserves when there is no one to answer the call in a timely manner. Each month, a minimum of Sixteen (16) Duty Hours are required, unless a Leave of Absence (LOA) or excused absence is approved.

When on duty, the level of care you are expected to provide may vary based on other members on duty. At times, you may be required to serve as a driver, and other times the care may require life-saving measures. Together, we as an agency function at our highest level when we work as a team.

When you become a member

When you make the decision to serve as a volunteer in any capacity, you have chosen to put service before self. There is no greater self satisfaction than giving of your time and skills to help others. You will get to be a part of life changing experiences, help those in their time of need, and create lasting friendships. Some even use their volunteer experience to start or supplement a career in the medical field. The training you receive will help in the event of an emergency at home, at work, or in public.

The Singers Glen Volunteer Rescue Squad provides opportunities to further your training, grow your leadership skills, and advance into positions of squad leadership.
